RISK/CHANGE
Risk/Change is the project title for a number of related works
produced in 2008-2009, following the Bear Stearns collapse and through
the 2008 election season.
In March 2008, when I learned of the
tent city in Ontario California, I began writing about the word "risk."
(Finally published in Perspectives. PDF here.)
These writings became a Quartet, which was performed at Radio Fest 2008 at the Ontological Theater / St. Mark's Church. (Thanks to Danny Snelson for the invitation.)
The
Quartet was stilted. The first voice consisted of fragments of text
taken from actual speeches madee by Bernanke, Paulson, Obama,
Blankfein, Mike Bloomberg and others. After producing the three-channel
version of Lecture on Democracy as Word and Brand, I began working on a three-channel piece--simply called Risk/Change. The first channel would be fragments of the actual speeches that I had been paraphrasing in the quartet version.
The
three channel version was to have several episodes, mostly taken from
September 2008 - during the time of the Lehman Collapse and TARP
debates, but also would have episodes from May 2008, November 2008 and
January 2009. This three-channel version was never completed.
